Past Present is a curated section of the fair’s programming. It includes artworks generously provided by galleries that represent both emerging and well-established artists. The title of the section refers to the fact that represented works of art were relevant in the past and have not lost their artistic value at the present time. The section primarily targets collectors and contemporary art connoisseurs as its audience. It seeks to expand the range of the fair, to try and place the art of the moment in a meaningful cultural and historical context. The exhibition includes works of recognized classics of contemporary art who has greatly influenced the Russian art history.
This year the exhibition includes Yuri Zlotnikov’s drawings from 1980’s (pop/off/art Gallery), Andrei Monastirsky’s Branch (XL Gallery), Igor Makarevich’s Freedom painting from 1990 (VP Studio), and Valery Koshlyakov’s Seafront from 1998 (ART4) among other works.
