The Breeder

George Vamvakidis and Stathis Panagoulis inaugurated The Breeder in 2002. The gallery represents a group of 27 artists and aims to facilitate the long-term development of their careers, liaising with international galleries, curators, institutions, museums and collectors. Over the last 10 years The Breeder has been a pioneer in the development of the contemporary art scene in Athens.

The gallery's artists have been included in a number of internationally renowned exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale (2011, 2013), the New Orleans Biennale (2008), the Athens Biennale (2007, 2009 and 2011), the Gwangju Biennale (2014), the Berlin Biennale (2014), the Istanbul Biennale (2011) and the Cairo Biennale (2010), along with exhibitions at a number of prestigious museums and institutions.

In 2008 the gallery moved to Metaxourgio, an up-and-coming arts area in downtown Athens, in a masterfully renovated 1970s ice-cream factory. Following the Greek financial meltdown in 2009 and the subsequent economic crisis, one of the main goals we took on with successful results was to dynamically promote a select group of emerging Greek artists on the global arena. In June 2013, The Breeder inaugurated an exhibition program in Monaco.
