Cosmoscow announces the date and venue of the 12th International Art Fair and begins accepting applications for participation from galleries

March 22, 2024

The 12th Cosmoscow International Art Fair will be held with the support of long-term and regular partners the companies HUTTON, MR Group, Ultima Yandex Go, Beluga, Tête de Cheval and BORK at the Expocentre Fairgrounds (Forum Pavilion) according to tradition during the autumn art -season from September 27 to 29, 2024. A preview of the fair for collectors and art professionals will take place on September 26.

Margarita Pushkina,
Founding Director of the Cosmoscow Art Fair:

“Since the founding of the fair, our main task as organizers has been direct participation in the development of the Russian art scene. Gallerists and artists prepare for the fair, show the best art, and create works specifically for this event. Visitors have a unique opportunity to see all the most significant and important art that has been created over the past year on one site.

Every year we try to modernize and improve our work: this year we expanded the fair’s Expert Council - it included leading art historians and art market practitioners, we also plan to announce a new section, which we will talk about later. We are not changing traditions, the fair will be held again in the second half of September, at the same site, we hope to meet collectors soon.”

The collection of applications for participation in the fair will continue until May 31, 2024. One of the most important principles of forming the exhibition program of the fair is the professional selection of participating galleries. This is the responsibility of the Cosmoscow expert council. This year, the composition of the expert council has expanded; it was joined by Irina Gorlova, an art critic, curator of exhibition projects, head of the department of newest trends at the State Tretyakov Gallery. During her practice, Irina Gorlova has implemented more than 50 curatorial projects, including in collaboration with partners from international museums and contemporary art centers.

Irina Gorlova,

member of the Cosmoscow expert council, art critic, curator of exhibition projects, head of the latest trends department of the State Tretyakov Gallery:

“The existence and development of Cosmoscow affirms the value of works of contemporary art. Thanks, among other things, to expert selection, the fair provides an opportunity for the best galleries to show their activities, which discover new names and sometimes overturn established ideas about seemingly famous artists. Participation in the Cosmoscow expert council is also an opportunity for me to communicate with colleagues, exchange opinions on the artistic situation in general and on new trends in art.”

Galleries will be traditionally divided into sections depending on their specialization. Both young and already well-known galleries with their own exhibition space will take part in the BASE section. CONTOUR will unite galleries that do not have permanent space and operate in a showroom or online platform format. The CIRCULATION section will include galleries dealing with circulation art, and DESIGN will present galleries working with collection design. The DIGITAL section, whose expert council includes media artist, curator, teacher Alexey Shulgin and curator and contemporary art theorist Anna Zavediy, will unite offline and online galleries and platforms working with projects in the field of new media and technological art. The COMMUNITY section will bring together projects aimed at developing infrastructure, education and communications in the field of contemporary art and increasing interest in collecting.

The expert council of the DESIGN section of the 12th edition of Cosmoscow included Maria Savostyanova, art critic, design historian, lecturer, deputy publisher of Art Focus Now, author of the book “Design Today”, deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine “Interior + Design” (2001-2018), teacher School of Design at RANEPA and Daria Belyakova, founder of the Arch(e)type bureau and the A-House club dedicated to design and architecture.

Maria Savostyanova,

member of the Cosmoscow expert council, art critic, design historian:

“Since I have been observing the sphere of Russian design for a long time, it is important for me that, despite any circumstances, designers continue to develop and hone their skills. As time goes on, people who have creative potential must move forward. And fairs are also designed to stimulate career development.

A member of the Cosmoscow expert council has an important advantage - he sees tens of times more things, ideas, initiatives than a fair visitor will ultimately see. This is a unique opportunity to keep your finger on the pulse of the industry and assess the real state of affairs.”

Traditionally, the fair will also have an online version. Cosmoscow Online will have an extended duration compared to the fair at Expocentre Fairgrounds and will again be held on the TEO by Cosmoscow platform, Russia’s largest online marketplace for contemporary art.
