On April 12th, 2021, the Cosmonautics Day, the 8th Cosmoscow Foundation Charity Auction was held. It was supported by the jewelry company Mercury, Otkritie Private Banking, Ruinart Champagne House and strategic partner v confession agency. The chosen venue was Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow, which was also declared the Cosmoscow 2021 Museum of the Year. Actor, TV presenter and musician Ivan Urgant acted as the auctioneer.
As the result of the auction, all 22 lots were sold for 201,500 €. The proceeds from the sales will traditionally be used to implement Cosmoscow Foundation for Contemporary Art programs - creating projects and educational programs in the cultural field, as well as replenishing museum collections.
The curator of the auction and pre-auction exhibition was Simon Rees, Art Director of Cosmoscow, who announced the theme - “PHANTASMA”. The selected lots were dedicated to astrology and cosmology, new worlds and the 60th anniversary of the first manned flight into space. The works for the auction were provided by both Russian and foreign artists.
The most expensive lot of the auction was Rostislav Lebedev's “Russian Space”, sold for € 25,000. The work of Cosmoscow 2021 Artist of the Year Irina Korina - was sold for € 20,000. Other favorites of the charity auction were the works of Aidan Salakhova, Georgy Ostretsov, Alexey Azarov, Alexey Bogolepov and Anna Andrzhievskaya.
The central theme of the charity evening was retrofuturism - with its dreams of unknown worlds and the conquest of space. The guests experienced an intergalactic journey, the beginning of which was marked by the song "Tenderness" performed by Maya Kristalinskaya, which Yuri Gagarin and other Soviet cosmonauts loved to listen to. Guests learned about the Cosmoscow Foundation's programs from an animated film stylized as a space odyssey (author: Maria Agateeva).
Theatrical performance “Phantasma”, which immersed the guests in the atmosphere of a spaceship, was prepared by the Creative Association 9. The musical accompaniment was performed by Dmitry Ustinov and Peter Theremin, the great-grandson of the legendary inventor Lev Theremin, the creator of theremin.
