Galleries, Fairs and Museums: Paths of Patronage

The expansion of museum collections through private philanthropy is one of the most promising yet least systematically explored practices in the Russian art market. Cosmoscow has accumulated significant experience in working with museum institutions, including through its Museum of the Year Award. In 2026, the Association of Galleries is launching systematic research aimed at developing a culture of collecting and building new forms of collaboration with museums.

The discussion will explore existing models of interaction between galleries, collectors and museums, present successful cases of expanding museum collections through donations and philanthropy, and examine the legal, reputational and communication barriers that can arise along the way. Particular attention will be given to outlining the first public framework for a roadmap for collectors interested in working with museum institutions.

Moderator: Alina Kryukova, founder of a—s—t—r—a gallery, member of the Board of the Association of Galleries and its working group on cooperation with museums.
