The Institution of the Year program is annually held by the Cosmoscow Foundation for Contemporary Art on a competitive basis. Following the results of the competition, the Cosmoscow Foundation provides financing for the presentation of the chosen institution at the fair.
The STATION art platform was founded in 2009 by Evgeny Kulagin and Ivan Estegneev. The project, inspired by the idea of an alternative habitat, is located in the space of the former Linen Manufactories in the historical part of the city and consists of two halls: a gallery and a black box stage. In recent years, one of the key areas of the platform has been the residency program, which gives Russian choreographers the opportunity to carry out their research and artistic practice on the stage.
The goal of the project is to develop a platform for contemporary dance and theater at the Russian and international level, including festival activities, the organization of a residency program for performing artists, and the promotion of projects at the intersection of various art disciplines. Since 2012, the activities of STATION have been carried out with the support of the Mikhail Prokhorov Foundation.
